Based on the undesired SBM model,this paper evaluates the urban green development efficiency of 277 cities in China from 2010 to 2016, and analyzes their spatio-temporal pattern,urban types,causes of efficiency loss and driving factors. The results show that: 1) The efficiency level of urban green development is not high on the whole,and rises after the fluctuation declines. The efficiency varies greatly within the four regions,and shows a declining trend,which is higher in the eastern region,followed by the northeastern region,the western region and the central region. It has the greatest efficiency improvement in the northeast region,which has the characteristics of "low input,low output and low pollution". The efficiency shapes a "sag" zone from Hebei Province to Guangdong Province and varies greatly within the regions. 2) Environmental pollution,resource and capital redundancy are the main causes of regional efficiency loss. Consumption,fiscal revenue and GDP are the important expected output factors of efficiency loss in the central,western and northeastern regions respectively. 3) Cities belonging to the types of efficiency leading,coordinated development,efficiency breakthrough and green growth are the driving forces of efficiency,while cities which belong to the types of green declining,yellow growing and yellow declining are the key areas for improvement. 4) Economic development level,population size,industrial structure,energy intensity,government intervention,environmental regulation and informatization level are the influencing factors of efficiency. But the effects of government intervention,environmental regulation and informatization level are different in the four regions.
