Taking the coastal cities in China as study case, this article used coupling coordination model and GWR model to clarify the coordination characteristics between development strength and resource environmental bearing capacity and its spatial heterogeneity of influencing factors since the middle of 1990s. Conclusions are drawn as follows:1)The development strength of coastal cities shows an accelerating upward trend, and the average value increased from 2.5254% in 1995 to 5.1568% in 2015. The high value concentrated in the alluvial plain of Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, and the development strength of Shenzhen (35.6402%) and Shanghai (35.0359%) is always at the highest level. The resource environmental bearing capacity is steadily rising and the bearing state is better, the average value increased from 0.3126 in 1995 to 0.3825 in 2015, and taking the Yangtze Estuary as the demarcation point, the north is high and the south is low. 2)The coupling degree between development strength and resource environmental bearing capacity is in the low level coupling stage, and the non-synchronism is obvious. The coupling degree of Shenzhen is the highest, and the coupling degree of Ningde reaches the lowest. The coordinating degree between development strength and resource environmental bearing capacity is not high, and mainly shows the moderate disorder type. Among them, the coordinating degree of Shenzhen is the highest, and the coordinating degree of Shanwei reaches the lowest. 3)The influence of each parameter on the coordinating development between development strength and resource environmental bearing capacity is characterized by the nonstationarity of geographical space, and the five variables influencing the coupling coordination degree presenting Opening Up Level>Economic Development Level>Urbanization Level>Population Scale Degree>Industrial Development Level.
