The paper analyzes the evolution process and effect of shipping network in Yangtze River Delta since 1996 by choosing the Yangtze River Delta region as the case area and 74 well-known shipping companies, and using Hirschman-Herfindahl Index, shift-share analysis and port hub degree model. According to the research we can find that, the spatial structure of the container routes in the Yangtze River Delta region has been concentrated in the past 20 years; The ocean routes and near ocean routes have been concentrated in Shanghai and Ningbo, but the growth rate of Ningbo Port is three times that of Shanghai Port. Ocean routes and near ocean routes shows a shift from Shanghai Port to Ningbo Port in recent years; The coastal routes and Yangtze River routes of Taicang Port has increased most rapidly, and Taicang Port has become the hub of the regions along the Yangtze River together with the Nanjing Port; the competition among the ports in the Yangtze River Delta is always fiercely. Finally, the paper analyzes the influence of the evolution of shipping network on port status, port hierarchy and harbor facilities in Yangtze River Delta.
