Abstract

The concept of special small-town was produced in the process of Zhejiang economic practice, and will promote the transformation of traditional small town to special small-town. Based on the development of urban society, it analyzes the differences between the traditional towns and special small-town, and the necessity of evolution between them. It found that the small town was an important part of the traditional urban system, and the service centre of administrative and economic functions in the rural areas. The special small-town will break the hierarchy logic of traditional urban system, and become an important functional node of agglomeration economy in the context of urban society. The special small-town can not only depend on the basis of traditional block economy, but also from the new specialization economy of innovation-entrepreneurship and creative culture, or from the vigorous tourism economy of countryside far away from the metropolis. Actively integrating into the global network of production and consumption, accelerating the construction of high-speed transportation system, shaping the specialization and agglomeration economy, forming the ecological community of production and living, will be a key to the transformation of the traditional small towns to the special small-town. Therefore, it will promote the transformation of traditional urban system to new urban network, and the different functional nodes including central city, small towns and rural areas have the typical characteristics of urban society in the new era.
