New urbanization and green development are the key to enhancing the endogenous driving force of economic growth. Based on a multidimensional examination of the level of new urbanization and green development at the provincial level from 2011 to 2020,this paper analyzes the regional characteristics of new urbanization and green development,examines their relationship from a nonlinear perspective,and explores the transmission mechanism of consumption structure upgrading and industrial structure upgrading. It's found that: 1) The overall levels of new urbanization and green development are on the rise,but there are significant regional differences in the green development level,it faces the greatest pressure on green development in the central region. 2) There is a positive U-shaped relationship between the level of new urbanization and the level of green development,that is,the urbanization inhibits the green development at the initial stage,and promotes the green development at the later stage,with a turning point of 30.22%. 3) The construction of new urbanization in China can promote the improvement of green development level through the intermediary effect channels of promoting the upgrading of consumption structure and industrial structure. 4) The level of new urbanization in the eastern region has a significant inhibitory and then promoting effect on the level of green development,while the relationship between new urbanization and green development is not significant in the central and western regions.
